 How Blind Gamers Use Sound To Play Their Favorite Games

A recent and fascinating article at the IGN website highlighted stories about blind gamers tackling and completing games which were primarily designed for sighted players. 

The article points out that while the tasks required more than an average amount of determination and perseverance to succeed, primarily it was the depth and strength of a game’s sound design that made the ultimate difference.  

Sound can fall into different categories such as rewarding noises for a player picking up a valuable item. The writer also called for game developers to speak with vision impaired players and engage the community in more frequent discourse.

3D printed tactile chess helps vision impaired children learn the game

A group of innovative young people from Argentina have designed and 3D printed a chess board that caters to people with visual impairments.

The tactile 3D printed chess set, which has braille embedded on its board, has been given to the Elizalde Institute for the blind in Argentina.

How I learned to see through the eyes of my son

Kristin Smedley is an award winning nonprofit leader, rare eye disease advocate, speaker and up-and-coming author – but she never planned on any of that. Kristin originally planned to be third grade Teacher of the Year.

But her personal path to greatness took an unexpected turn when two of her three children were diagnosed as blind. She quickly had to learn all the tools of blindness and get them into the hands of her sons.
